Positive Behaviour Support

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is a person-centred approach aimed at improving the quality of life and understanding and assisting with behaviours of concern. It is a comprehensive, evidence-based approach that seeks to understand the reasons behind a person's behaviour and develop strategies to assist the individual through modification of the environment, improvement in communication and better understanding of their wants and needs.

At Advance Therapy, we offer support for children and adults in various areas including preparing for school, work, or social activities, developing communication and social skills, and enhancing our participant’s mental health, flexibility, and resilience.

We believe in a multi-disciplinary, evidence-based approach, where our NDIS Positive Behaviour Support Practitioners collaborate with other allied health providers, such as Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, and Physiotherapists to provide a holistic service that is tailored to meet the individual needs of each participant.

Positive Behaviour Support Services

At Advance Therapy, Positive Behaviour Support involves making changes to the environment and daily routines to enhance the individual's well-being. This may include engaging in activities that the person enjoys, visiting places they like, and avoiding situations they find challenging. Additionally, PBS aims to minimise or eliminate the use of restrictive practices, such as physical restraints or confinement, which can prevent individuals from engaging in preferred activities.

Our PBS services are delivered in a range of settings, including the participant's home, school, and community settings. We work closely with the participant's support network to ensure that our services are integrated into their daily routines

  • Our team conducts a comprehensive assessment of the participant's behaviour to understand the factors that contribute to challenging behaviour.

  • Based on the results of the assessment, we develop an individualised support plan that is tailored to meet the participant's needs and goals.

  • We provide evidence-based behaviour intervention strategies that are designed to promote positive behaviour and reduce challenging behaviour.

  • We provide skill-building programs that are designed to develop the participant's social, communication and self-care skills.

  • We provide support to families and carers to help them better understand the participant's behaviour and provide effective support.
